Juice Robinson – Greenpeace to Greener Pastures

This Saturday sees Juice Robinson face arguably the toughest test of his career. The former ‘CJ Parker’ will be challenging for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship against Tetsuya Naito.

Juice recently spoke to NJPW1972 about the match:

‘It seems every time we talk it’s the biggest match of my life, but it’s the biggest match of my life. The chance to become Intercontinental Champion is the stuff of dreams. It’s the second biggest championship in New Japan and who’s had it, it’s a who’s who, with Tanahashi, Nakamura, Hirooki Goto and now Tetsuya Naito. So it’s a big deal.’

It has been an interesting ride to the IC Title for Robinson, when he left NXT the only mark he appeared to have left was on Kevin Owens’ face. Fast forward a couple of years and a man who is clearly passionate and has a dedication to his craft is finally getting the opportunity he deserves.

Juice’s first opportunity on the big stage took place in January at New Japan’s biggest event; Wrestle Kingdom. Unfortunately Robinson’s feature bout against newly revealed Bullet Club member Cody fell flat on a card with multiple MOTY candidates. When Juice steps in the ring this weekend against the Los Ingobernables leader Naito he will be looking to steal the show, and there is a very good chance that they will.

The real question is, can Robinson beat Naito in a one on one bout? Robinson certainly thinks so: ‘I definitely think it’s possible. At Ryogoku, if you asked people if I could have pinned Naito, they would have said no, but I did. If I didn’t feel I had the ability to beat anybody on the roster, I wouldn’t be here. So I absolutely have the ability to beat Naito.’
