Thoughts on SummerSlam After Great Balls of Fire
A lot has been said about WWE’s Great Balls of Fire PPV in July. But I’ve got a different point to discuss! SummerSlam.
So what do we know? We know that Brock will have his first title defence at Great Balls of Fire and that it will be the last RAW PPV before SummerSlam. Other than that, everything else is just speculation. With that in mind, let’s begin!
SummerSlam is part of the main 4 PPVs (Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, SummerSlam and Survivor Series). Therefore it usually holds some major importance and relevance for both brands.
Recent talking points have circled around Brock Lesnar and the Universal Title not appearing on RAW. Previous thoughts were that he would defend at SummerSlam, but since it is confirmed that he will defend at Great Balls of Fire, will he also appear in a match at SummerSlam? Unfortunately the answer is maybe, we just don’t know.
Only WWE and Lesnar know what is in his contract, but it could be that his current absence results in a more regular and consistent presence from Brock later on. This would then suggest that he could easily appear at Great Balls of Fire and SummerSlam!
If we look at this picture from a different angle though… If Brock defends his title at Great Balls of Fire and then takes another leave of absence, missing SummerSlam, that means WWE must have other pretty big plans in store for the PPV. There are 8 other titles in RAW and SmackDown Live, and it may be another record breaking year for the women’s division if they were given the main event (rightfully so in this author’s opinion).
Also not forgetting that SummerSlam would be the first major PPV for stars like Shinsuke Nakamura and Tye Dillinger. Watch those spaces!
Again, all of this is speculation at this early stage, we really don’t know what plans are in place… if any!
Do you have any thoughts on what WWE might do with SummerSlam? Let us know in the comments!
(Oh, and just in case there are those out there who don’t know Great Balls of Fire isn’t exactly the best name…)
