Chris Jericho to Drop US Title on First Appearance at Smackdown Live?
It’s not the first time I’ve said it, and it certainly won’t be the last… I was wrong. And are we now in for another shock? Is Chris Jericho going to Drop the US Title on his first appearance at Smackdown Live?
I’m not going to go into the details because they will be covered on Wednesday’s release of The Scoop by R&J Podcasts, but I did not see Jericho winning the US title against Kevin Owens! So what happens now?
It’s been clear that Jericho was likely to take a break while he tours with his band Fozzy, and WWE can’t afford to have 2 belts missing from their shows. Fozzy’s first tour date is 5th May, with the rest of May and June booked out with other concerts as well.

Taking into account the pressure that has been building with AJ Styles and Baron Corbin, not to mention some action from Sami Zayn too, the US title will need to stay as a regular appearance on Smackdown Live. I really like Y2J, but he doesn’t have the front to pull a Brock Lesnar with this situation.
With all of this in mind, it is not hard to reach a point where the US title needs to be dropped by Jericho pretty quickly. Which leads us to the question: is Chris Jericho going to Drop the US Title on his First Appearance of Smackdown Live?
It could also be the case that Jericho had negotiated winning a title at Payback and dropping it immediately afterwards before his departure. This reminds me vaguely of the Bret Hart vs HBK Montreal Screw-Job… except it worked in this instance.
I guess we’re just going to have to tune in for Tuesday night’s episode of Smackdown Live to find out!
What do you think will happen with the US title? Will Jericho run away with it, or will he drop it before going on tour?
Let us know in the comments.
